Island Child Publications is a home based business in Duncan BC run by Ella’s mom, me! … Lisa Reda … Born and raised on the Island, I moved to the Mainland in the late 90s to gain those all important ‘real-life’ skills that all us invincible teens think we need to get by in life.  Eight years, and one amazing little girl later, I moved back to the Island, choosing the amazingly beautiful Cowichan Valley to buy a house and raise my daughter.  Being a new mom in a new town, I realized I had no idea where to go to find the things I needed; where were the consignment shops (I am a thrifty mamma on  a budget!), where was the best daycare, who sold cloth diapers?  Deciding to try my hat as a stay-at-home mom, I hit the computer and put my design and publishing skills to good use, and created a 24-page parenting publication geared towards hip new moms, young modern families, and single parents alike.  In February 2006, I published my very first issue of Island Child, resources for pregnancy & parenting.

Island Child overcame some amazing hurdles in the first couple years, some which still blindside me to this day in particular parking lots (see photo J).  I have published over 20 fun, enjoyable, informative, and if you read the Dads issue, pretty humorous issues to date!  Published quarterly, Island Child is available free at numerous stops on the Island, from Victoria to the Comox Valley and all points in between.

… and just because I was not busy enough, I ventured into unchartered waters in January 2010 and published Mamma Mia’s Coupon Book, for belly, baby & beyond.  A coupon book with a value of over $2,000, Mamma Mia is sold locally and online from our sister site, www.mammamiascouponbook.com.  We are in the process of putting together the 2011 edition.  Email me if you would like more info on how to get your business inside this very cool new marketing venue!
